A crazy travel day for the Rochester Stars ends up in celebration after a 5-4 shootout victory over the Bay Sate Breakers at the New England Sports Center. A bus driver heart attack, a 10 hour trip and several players arriving late for the game put Rochester to a mental test to start the season.
Dan Broderick scored his 1st of 3 goals on the night to tie the game at 1 half way through the 1st period. After falling behind again, Broderick tallied his 2nd, unassisted. Bay State continued to pressure as they scored 1 more time ending the 1st half with a 3-2 lead. Getting down 4-2 early in the 2nd half seemed to spell doom for the Stars.
A terrific effort from goalie Gordon Ceasar and a never quit attitude paid off in the end. Bobby Sokol closed the gap to 4-3 with his 1st goal of the season. With just 8 minutes left in the game, Dan Broderick completed the Hat Trick to tie the game at 4.
The shoot out saw Bay State score on its 1st attempt. Gordon Ceasar shut the door from that point on as James Poston and Dylan Shapiro slammed the door to earn The Rochester stars its 1st victory of the season.
